Duck Duck Goose
In this game, kids sit down in a circle facing each other. One person is ‘it’ and walks around the circle. As they walk around, they tap people’s heads and say whether they are a ‘duck’ or a ‘goose’. Once someone is the ‘goose’ they get up and try to chase ‘it’ around the circle. The goal is to tap that person before they are able sit down in the goose’s spot. If the goose is not able to do this, they become ‘it’ for the next round and play continues. If they do tap the ‘it’ person, the person tagged has to sit in the centre of the circle. Then the goose becomes ‘it’ for the next round. The person in the middle can’t leave until another person is tagged and they are replaced.
Wink Wink
This is a game best played in a large group. Sit all of the children in a circle, with legs crossed; all the children put their heads down. One person, (it’s useful to always have at least one adult present) walks around the circle and taps one child on the head. This person is the assassin. The child then puts the children to sleep by winking at them.
If you are winked at, silently count to 10, then put your feet in the middle of the circle. If the assassin manages to put everyone to sleep, then they win. They can be ‘witnessed’ as well. If you think you know who the killer is before you get winked at, you can say you have a suspect. Such as “I suspect that Sally is the assassin”, if someone seconds it (agrees with you) then Sally comes clean. If Sally is not the assassin, then the accusers are sent to sleep too.
A Sailor Went To Sea
A sailor went to sea, sea, sea. To see what he could see, see, see. But all that he could see, see, see. Was the bottom of the deep blue sea, sea, sea.
And then…
Three sailors went to chop-chop-chop to see what they could chop-chop-chop and all that they could chop-chop-chop is the bottom of the deep blue chop-chop-chop (chopping motion with hands).
Three sailors went to knee-knee-knee to see what they could knee-knee-knee and all that they could knee-knee-knee is the bottom of the deep blue knee-knee-knee (touch knee).
Three sailors went to China to see what they could China and all that they could China was the bottom of the deep blue China-China-China (bowing motion).
Three sailors went to sea-chop-knee-China to see what they could see-chop-knee-China and all that they could see-chop-knee-China was the bottom of the deep blue sea-chop-knee-China (all actions together).
SPUD
Object of the game: To try and eliminate other players by catching, dodging or throwing the ball. Assign each player a different number. Choose a player to be ‘it’ first.
‘It’ holds the ball and all the other players circle around him. ‘It’ then throws the ball straight up in the air while calling out a number.
The player with that number must catch the ball either while it is coming down or on the rebound.
While the player is catching the ball all other players scatter and get as far away as they can from the person catching the ball. When the ball is caught that player yells “SPUD!”.
The players who are running away must then stop in their tracks.
The player with the ball then tries to throw the ball and hit one of the other players.
If the player hits someone, then the player he hits gets a letter in the word SPUD. If he misses, then he himself gets a letter. When a player gets all four letters of the word SPUD they must sit out the rest of the game.
Variations:
– The player catching the ball can select a player he wants to hit and then take four steps toward that player before throwing the ball.
– If a player who’s number was called catches the ball without letting it bounce, they can then throw the ball in the air and call another number. Then that player must run back and try and catch the ball. If they catch it, they can call out another number while throwing the ball in the air. If they miss, they take four steps and try and hit another player.
– Instead of assigning numbers, players surround ‘it’ and then ‘it’ counts to 10 while the other players scatter. ‘It’ then yells “SPUD!” and everyone freezes. ‘It’ can take four steps towards the person they are attempting to hit before they throw the ball.
